John Jones - Coch Bach y Bala
At our meeting on the 20th of May 2026l, members enjoyed a lively talk based on Gwyndaf’s research into John Jones – Coch Bach y Bala. Jane Saunders told how this fiery‑haired petty thief from Bala became a Welsh folk hero, spending much of his life escaping from prison — even tunnelling out of Ruthin Jail. His final escape in 1913 ended tragically near Llanelidan, and he now rests in St Elidan’s churchyard, remembered as the “Welsh Houdini.”
